The Aptera Electric Car is a two-seater that gets 300 mpg and will be available for purchase in 2008 for around $30,000. A hybrid version (for those who have trouble finding charging outlets) will be available in 2009.

How can this car get 300 mpg when it runs on electricity - DUH ?
Kilowatts per mile might be a more accurate measure.

I'm sorry, but excuse me for my ignorance. I'm just wondering how an Electric car gets any miles per gallon? I thought Electricity was measured in wants and not volume.

Forget an SUV! You get hit in that thing by a Ford Focus and you are going to die!
Not to mention, it is electric and requires power from the grid, hence some fossil fuels are still being burned to support it. What about the volatile chemicals in the batteries? Hopefully they are easily recycled. What about the chasis and body ... are the made from and can they be recycled? Some plastics are not biodegradable or recyclable. Enviro-nuts, do your research before you purchase. Some things look good to the untrained eye. God knows, we don't want to have to blame Bush (like some people like to do) for a bad purchase!

First, the car still needs a little gas to run so there is a gas tank and it does need to be filled. Second, it looks like it wouldn't do will to protect me if I were to get in an accident and that concerns me. Other than that, I'd be tempted to buy one with the cost of gasoline in this country and it doesn't look like the cost is going to be coming down again. Gone are the days of $2.00 a gallon.

All cars require some gas to run, even this one. It runs almost entirely on electricity, but it requires a gas-powered motor to get the electric engine started. In addition, most use gas for sudden bursts of accelration or when the battery power begins to run down. So...it DOES use gas (which is always measured in mpg); just not very much.

Another example of govenment knows best...or, if this contraption was fabricated by a private company, good luck. Who knows, your company may be "in the black" in 2050. Just don't be a government "grant" seeker...we are already wasting too much of my tax money. Personally, I would purchase this death trap only for those who I dislike and would prefer to leave this world soon.

Hey Genius! An electric car that gets 300 miles per gallon? Electricity is not sold by the gallon last time I checked and if it takes fuel it is not an electric car.

If we are going to make alternative fuel vehicles, some effort must be made to make them in such a manner that they adapt to the needs of the consumer. This vehicle has no practicle application for the working man!

Have any of you heard about a Site called: www.water4gas.com ?
It is very interesting, and I am saving up to fix up my Ford Ranger so it can mak it's own Hydrogen out of water, and baking soda. You can add 3% gas, if you are concerned, about the possibility of rust in th eengine.
This man has a couple of books he sells, and will tell you where to buy the items you need to buy for completing the kit.
if any of you listen to Coast to Coast AM, on KFI AM 640, nightly from 10 PM through the night until 5 AM, that is where I herd about it. You may like to go to the Coast to Coats Web Site.
It is" www.Coasttocoastam.com
The man called in, and pretty much explained how it works. But he does suggests that you buy the books, so you are better informed as to which version you would like to use.

I DON'T KNOW A GREAT DEAL ABOUT ELECTRIC CARS, BUT I IMAGINE THAT THE GASOLINE IS FOR A GENERATOR TO POWER A CHARGER FOR THE BATTERYS. MAYBE THERE ARE NO BATTERYS OR JUST ONE TO STABILIZE THE ELECTRIC POWER. THE ELECTRIC MOTORS TO RUN THE CAR ARE LOW DRAIN DESIGN AND THE SPEED IS PROBABLY LIMITED.

Enviro-nuts, beware! The batteries in this car are made from a substance which comes from a mine in Ontario; so over-mined now that is looks like a moonscape. NASA uses the site to test some of their equipment! The material is then sent to China for smelting, and then to Japan where the batteries are made. The batteries are then returned to the US to be placed in hybrid vehicles. Ask yourself, how much fuel is wasted in that entire shipping process?

YOU PEOPLE SAY WHAT YOU WANT BUT I WILL DRIVE ANYTHING TO SCREW THOSE GAS COMPANIES AND THOSE IDIOTS THAT ARE RUNNING UP THE PRICE OF GAS ON WALL STREET. MY 2006 CIVIC GETS 37 MPG. I'M GOING TO A CLASS THAT TELLS ME I WILL GET OVER 50 MPG WHEN I FINISH IT. IF THE MAJORITY HAD THIS TYPE OF CAR WE WOULD KILL THE OIL COMPANIES. WE'RE HEADING FOR A REVOLUTION ANYWAY. I'LL BE AT THE FRONT OF THE PACK.
