What is it? Magnesium is a light metal that's also the eleventh most abundant element by weight in your body.
How does it help? Many hangover symptoms are thought to be caused by alcohol-induced magnesium depletion. Adding magnesium to your diet helps counteract the depletion.
How much? As a long-term preventative -- 400 mg per day.
As a rescue remedy to alleviate your suffering -- also 400 mg.

To date, the best curative elixer for hangovers that I have found is a Bloody Mary that includes; shrimp, asparagus, celery, olives and the requisite vodka and tomato juice. Perhaps the magnesium is found in the shrimp?
