It's hard to believe cubicle workers still think it's OK to look at hardcore porn at work (unless you work at Asylum, where it's part of, um, "research"). Yet some of the geniuses working for the Washington, D.C., government seem to enjoy surfing for sex on the job. Or at least they used to.
District of Columbia government authorities recently fired or suspended 41 workers after an investigation found an enormous amount of traffic to porn sites on their work computers.
The nine fired employees allegedly racked up 20,000 hits to porn sites on their computers throughout 2007.
Porn aside, it's clear that employees at all companies waste an enormous amount of time each day on websites that aren't work-related.
Where should the line be drawn?

20,000 sites / 9 employees / (365 days - 104 weekend days - 20 assorted holiday/vacation days) = 9.2 sites per day, or 1.15 sites per hour. And that's an average, so you can assume the dude that topped the list was at like 2 sites per hour.
Wow. That's some serious slacking right there.

Hi,
I am happy these losers were fired. I have never slacked off at work so let me go and get their job. How hard is it to sit for 8 hours a day and concentrate for an adult? How stupid and childish. Let me take your job and your paycheck fool. It's hard enough to get a decent job in this country. The last thing America needs is stupid, lazy, unskilled slackers taking up our few remaining jobs.

Lets see, these are government workers receiving higher pay and much better benefits, then similar employees in the private sector. They have so much spare time on their hands, that they can spend hours daily slacking off and porn surfing. It is our tax dollars that pays their salaries, so it is us, "we the people" that are being cheated, as these slackers laugh at us. This is a prime example that "Big Government" is bloated with nonessential employees and needs to be downsized. In the private sector these types of emplotees are immediately terminated. Government employees have Civil Service rules to protect them and make it virtually impossible to get rid them, no matter how poorly they perform their jobs. It is time government employees activities be closely monitored and these slackers be fired immediately.

OK, if it was in the job description then they should not have been fired. If they were on their own time then there should have been at least a suspension. If it was not allowed at all then the people should have used "Black Ice" and "Window Washer" and maybe they could have a happy end--ing. They will probably get Larry the Lawyer to get them their jobs back as long as they get into therapy for being sex addicts. Case closed. Now, back to my looking for the addresses of all of the females that were fired...

Not on the clock, boys. Nobody cares what you do on your own time but you can't use the CO computers for "personal use". That's what got Clinton in trouble - if he would have confined his extra curricular activities to after 5:00pm nobody would have cared but you can't screw off in the middle of the day....

I worked for a major telecommunications company for 37 years. I was also a union steward for many years. I can tell you they will and have fired many employees for using company equipmenmt to view porn. It was irrelevant if employee was on their own time or not. People who had many many years seniority were fired for viewing porn. I totally support the policy.

Obviously someone who does not work for the government wrote that sentence. I beg to differ. I do work for the government and not only is my pay less than the private sector but my benefits are almost nothing. I am not complaining, I enjoy my work. It is just bothersome when I see misconceptions such as this stated in the public. You cannot say that you know a lot of rich people who worked for the state/city/government. No, those are working at GM and the like have far better houses, vehicles, vacations, dogs, etc. than me.

Serves 'em right. Computers at work are "for work", not working off your frustrations in someone's bathroom: Matt!

I don't know if my last comment posted, but computers at work are used precisely for that: "work". They are not like working off your frustrations as a guest in someone's home: Matt.

I doubt if the workers in China have the time to waste on watching porn while at work... I think the American Government is in big trouble.
