It's hard to believe cubicle workers still think it's OK to look at hardcore porn at work (unless you work at Asylum, where it's part of, um, "research"). Yet some of the geniuses working for the Washington, D.C., government seem to enjoy surfing for sex on the job. Or at least they used to.
District of Columbia government authorities recently fired or suspended 41 workers after an investigation found an enormous amount of traffic to porn sites on their work computers.
The nine fired employees allegedly racked up 20,000 hits to porn sites on their computers throughout 2007.
Porn aside, it's clear that employees at all companies waste an enormous amount of time each day on websites that aren't work-related.

A respectable hacker can get into anyone's computer and make it appear that the computer's owner was surfing any site they wish. I have found crap on my computer that I sure didn't solicit.

It looks like some of you didn't read the article very closely. It said the employees were FIRED or suspended. A suspension is the first step to getting fired in the federal gov't.
I am a federal employee (20 years) and by no means am I taking up for these D.C. employees. I just wanted to let everyone know that the federal gov't is changing just like the rest of the world. We have had people fired for visiting porn sites and there are all kinds of worms and filters on our computers in the office where I work. We can't even go to YOU TUBE. So there you have it. Believe it or not!

Porn Flicks are so boring. It's not necissarilly the content but the story lines and lousy acting. It's like the lowest of the low budget films, lousy dialog, lousy actors and no romance. Why would anyone want to watch it? No body's so ugly they can't find a mate and why subject a perfectly good computer to the spyware and virusus asociated with such material! I call a computer virus "A Nasty Girls Disease" and my wife knows exactly what I mean....."A Virus"!

But the good news is that these guys now get to stay home and look at porn all day long on their home computers while their wives are out working to pay the electric company to make sure the electricity doesn't get turned off!

Anyone who violates the prescribed duties while at work should be fired. The boss / employer tells his employee what is expected of him, if he fails to comply, your fired. Imagine the concept of following instructions, or of a days pay for a days work!!

Brenda, I beg to differ. We have contractors mixed with government employees in our department, all doing the same work. At same age level, government employees making 50% more than we do by the time we reach 40. A US govt worker 10 years younger makes more. They get better benefits, much more vacation time, they get sick days (which we don't), they earn comp time whenever they simply record it, get more interesting assignments, more privileges, less scrutiny, and they slack off a lot more hardly every putting in more than 40 hrs. And they are protected from lay offs, while we are not. In some other government areas..such as state govt, they get real pensions..where they can retire with 80% of their final pay at the age of 55 for the rest of their lives (kind of similar to socialism and communism). Compare to our pension of $1200/month at 65. It irks me when goverment workers think they are underpaid.

Your right we have a lot of useless workers in the civil service, a lot of them are high-ranking retired servicemembers, their wives and children. Many people are from a long line of college educated families. Most of what it is we do is tied up in rules and regulations, we do a little bit here and there, kind of like piece work. Those workers should have been put on probation first and then fired for using the government's computer systems (and wasting taxpayers' money) to access porn sites. When I worked at a financial company, I used to get so mad when guys would check out porn or (almost worse) spend hours per day on their "fantasy football" accounts. Four guys were fired for going to porn sites, as they were so stupid that they did not realize that every company has ways in which to track every web site one ever visits. The fantasy football guys were not fired, as that was an accepted part of the company culture. I never ratted on them, but I sure resented it.

This is another nonsense article. There were other reasons for these people to be fired, if they existed and/or were fired. I work for the government YOU CAN NOT GET TO PORNO SITES. Sometimes you can barely get to work related sites, there is a firewall that blocks almost every site out there that is not essential to your job. If this was happening fire the managers and MIS staff for really goofing off.
