Take a trip with us back to the "simple" era of the mid-20th century, when old people were "tyrants" in need of sedation, women wanted nothing more than a blender to make them happy and every half-witted diet claim could be spread across a full-page ad.That could never happen today, now could it?
(Cue the creepy self-aware laugh.)
And if there are any we missed, let us know.

And here you can see two old TV commercials that are totally politically incorrect:

(with The Flintstones selling Winston and an old Argentine ad selling beer in the hospital)

A nice walk down memory lane that left me feeling old lol It was a fun walk though. People whining about all this political correct stuff need to get a life. This country survived MANY years without it and all it does is cause problems. It doesn't even allow people to "be themselves" anymore. Let them carry on about it. As for me, I am not now nor will I EVER be politically correct. I'm telling it like it is MY way. PC is for sissies. Wonderful ads though and Fred FLintone selling Winstons cracks me up. PC? Who cares! How many people have died in car accidents after smoking a Winston? None, but how many have died after having "just a couple drinks"? Just as I thought. Thanks for the memories!

I remember an advertisement when I was about 10 years old watching television of Fred Flintstone lighting up Welma's Winston cigarette with his Zippo lighter. After flipping the lid open on the lighter, two sticks would rub together to ignite and then he would light her cigarette. Winston tastes good like a cigarette should !

I loved this. Some of the advertisments are so funny and so offensive at the same time...which means, things don't really change.
I think my favorite was the woman with the ketchup bottle. I work in a business where I must do a good deal of heavy lifting, both in the store and on deliveries. While most men are very nice and either offer to help or just allow me to do my job, others actually become offended at the sight of a woman doing heavy work. I guess they think that the only thing a woman should be able to lift (or open) is a ketchup bottle!

Seems that the tables have turned! I think most of the commercials portray men as bumbling laughing idiots...if you've ever been in the room when a Budlight or other such classic commercials is on...you will see why advertisers figured out how to appeal to men. They are often act like a bunch of kids with short attention spans so a goofy silly commerical is about the only thing that grabs their attention. Great marketing savvy! Now women..with all the "PC" stuff, they have realized we are NOT all stepford/robotic housewives, we are educated, intelligent consumers who like a commercial to MAKE SENSE so Ads geared towards women tend to be more creative, smart and fun...FINALLY, someone figured it out! Not saying all men are goofy idiots but lets face it, why are so many commericals/Ads absolutlely RIDICULOUS or POINTLESS and I have seen guys have CONVERSATIONS about these stupid commercials, gossiping like they say we women are famous for! Its quite funny to witness..TRUTHFULLY!

Who Cares about any of this crap. Why don't you get a life. You can find racism and sexism in anything if you try hard enough. Does anyone really give a damn. Aren't we beyond all this problem creating hyperbole. Live your life, what do you care what someone else "might think" or what are their real motives and/or intentions. If you want to invent controversy join the military or a political party; otherwise give it up. Quit tryiong to make something out of nothing.

Yes, now men are stupid, idiots, we smell, that's why we are compared to garbage or a dog, as one commercial portrays. We forget to put antifreeze in our cars, that's why we are broke down on the road, while the woman drivers laugh at us as they drive by. We can't change a flat tire, the lady has to do it. We are pigs until we buy a condom. We don't have enough sense to take cold medicine when we are sick, the wife has to give it to us. Bad people are always men. etc.etc. Yes, things have changed. I don't see this trend changing anytime soon. Unless we speak up. Tell these morons that make these kinds of commercials that we don't like this and will not buy their products. There is no reason that anyone should be subjected to this kind of BS. Oh well, just knock me in the head, I could have had a V8. But make sure it's a man's head.

OK. Seriously? Before posting can people please at least use spell check! You want to talk about what is really wrong with this country? The lack of education people have. That is part of the dowfall of this great land of ours. Roger, those ads have nothing to do with rap music, nor do they have anything to do with what is wrong with this country. People back then were able to speak their mind and it worked. Yes, women were treated sub-human at times, but at least children were not shooting each other at schools and universities. Crime rates were low. Frivolous lawsuits were not an issue. People spoke up for what they believed in. Unlike today where we are all too scared to say what we really mean or think because we are afraid of a 50 million dollar lawsuit being slapped on us because someones feelings were hurt. Enough is enough.

Commercial advertising doesn't have the same First Amendment protections that political and religious speech have in this country, and it shouldn't. Advertising is designed to sell. And it does, very well. Unfortunately, it can also unintentionally sell negative stereotypes. What advertisers also learned is that brainless pandering to the lowest common denominator can now no longer sell products. I'd like to think we're growing up.
