1. CAPITAL PUNISHMENT"They shall be stoned with stones, their blood shall be upon them." -- Leviticus 20:27
"There are a tremendous number of things you can get executed for in the Bible," notes Jacobs. "Homosexuality, adultery, astrology, being a disrespectful child, being a drunken son, blasphemy, breaking the Sabbath, perjury, incest, bestiality and witchcraft." And stoning was often the execution of choice.
Stoning an adulterer: In order to take part in the Old Testament tradition, Jacobs gathered up a handful of white pebbles and found an adulterer in New York's Central Park. While Jacobs attempted to throw the pebbles at the sinner, the adulterer grabbed the stones and whipped them at the writer, scowling: "I'll punch you right in the kisser."

If people truly went back to strict adherence of God's divine law without the corrupting element of man's desire and man's law, the world would be a much better place. The world is full of immoral people who jump and shout during their faith's worship services and then step right out the door and continue their immoral ways, yet they claim to be so holy and sanctified. You have spiritual leaders womanizing and sodomizing, you have young children giving birth, you have people stealing money out of the collection plates, you have adulterers, drunks, gays/homosexuals -- all claiming to be religious. It's time to step away from secular ideals and return to religious ones; man has corrupted things long enough and we all pay the penalty.

These laws are nuts and the pretense that obeying them would improve society is simply nuts. Societies around the world have functioned quite well without the nutty Christian laws, and in general, done a better job that with the Christian laws. For example, the South American indians have a nice, quiet and lawful society while Christ-affected people like Christians and Muslims have casued untold misery all over the world. In short, Christianity sucks the big one.

Atzecs and Mayas were involved in human sacrifices and they and Native North Americans scalped/beheaded their opponents, hardly more moral....and if them South American indians are better, more lawful, why don't you join them???

Kind of makes you wonder why homosexuals are singled out as "sinners" and adultery kind of gets overlooked. Hmmm.

RJ - what are you talking about??? Homos and adulterers both get stoned in the same segment. Glad you're paying attention.

Thank GOD for Jesus Christ, because he was used to save us from these exact laws. No one, especially in this time could follow all the laws that are written in the Bible. We are saved from the law.

Thank GOD for Jesus Christ, because he was used to save us from these laws. I don't think no one, especially in this time could follow all the laws in the Bible accordingly. The purpose of Jesus' ministry is to lift the penalty that not following these laws brings. Thats is not to say that we shouldn't still try to heed to the written Laws of GOD.

Correct me if I'm wrong here. But wasn't the bible written AFTER Jesus was crucified? So then I guess He didn't die to save us from these laws, and the bottom line is these laws were written, thousands of years ago in an attempt to keep the public terrified and in line. The laws are also reflective of that time period. There is no way laws like these could apply in this day and age

Could just be me.... But these laws are in the old testament and as Such aren't "Christian laws" but rather laws of judaism.... Speaks volumes about the ignorance of the people of these forums... Though then again I'm neither Muslim, Christian, Nor Jew. Just someone who studies religions.

Jessica -- The New Testement was written after and about Jesus's life but the Old Testement was written before.

The Bible was actually being written in several small parts before, during, and after the life of Christ. Otherwise, how would we know of the laws? Jesus didn't die to save us from the laws. He sacrificed Himself so that we could have eternal life in our souls. He came to redeem us of the moral crimes we all know we're guilty of. No one's perfect except for Him, which is why He is the only way to the Father.
These laws were not created to "keep the public terrified and in line" as some believe. They were stated to keep God's people pure. And while Jessica is right in saying that the laws were created in a different time and that they would be particularly difficult to follow now, many of those same laws have either been restated into our own laws or overlooked, i.e. adultery.
If you want to accuse someone of keeping us terrified and in line, look at our MAN-MADE government. But that's another discussion entirely....
