1. LADIES SHOULDN'T GRAB..."When men fight with one another, and the wife of the one draws near to rescue her husband from the hand of him who is beating him, and puts out her hand and seizes him by the private parts, then you shall cut off her hand." -- Deuteronomy 25:11-12
Yes, fight fans, you read that right. If you're getting your butt kicked by another guy, and your wife grabs your opponent's stones to help you out, she gets her hand cut off.
A very particular rule: "Why the specificity?" wonders Jacobs. "Why does the Bible ban this particular below-the-belt maneuver and not, say, a kidney punch or a kick between the thighs?"
Is it literal? Jacobs thinks the rabbis meant exactly what they wrote. However, in recent centuries, scholars have expanded the interpretation of the law to be, "You shouldn't embarrass others."

Naw man, you guys are right on the money with this one. It's such a bizarre kind of out from nowhere rule, that you know somebody had to experience it...

There is a very good reason for this law. In Bible times the ability to have kids was tantamount. Everything in comparison paled. Ruining a guy's ability to have kids (which is possible in the above) would ruin his life.

How about the law in Deuteronomy 20 that allows the parents of an incorrigible son to take him to the town council and have him stoned to death by all the men in the town as a glutton and drunkard? I wonder how many autistic boys were gotten rid of that way.

I hope, first of all, that this man knows Biblical Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek when deciphering these rules as so much is lost in translation. In regard to the "wrenching of the groin," it does have to do with someone's ability to have children, but not merely so he can continue his bloodline for purposes of passing along property and whatnot, but so that his children can honor him so that he rests peacefully in sheol. Thus this rule is not only specific and necessary to Hebraic tradition (and therefore hardly random or weird) I'd be hesitant to take anything this guy says for anything more than uneducated opinion and interpretation of someone who probably only has a very superficial understanding of the western monotheistic traditions, specifically Judaism and Christianity.

The Bible is pretty clear that you shouldn't offend a penis. Why? Because G-d was originally a fertility god before being upgraded to head of the gods and then the only G-d. (Ever wonder why the ten commandments shays thou shalt have no other gods before me? There were other gods and G-d didn’t want competition.) That's why a priest had to have his twig and berries intact. The Bible says that men should not have sex with men (Lev 18), but it doesn't say anything about women sleeping with women. If there is no penis involved it wasn't a crime. In the same chapter it says that neither man nor woman should lay down with beasts so none of the man means all humans, not in Leviticus 18 the chapter is very specific in mentioning men and women. Most people have no idea just how weird the bible gets
