What's worse than a truck turning over on the highway, adding hours to your morning commute? How about a hole in that truck releasing a swarm of over six million bees.

That's what happened recently near Sacramento, where a big rig transporting more than 400 hives brimming with honeybees flipped over, leaving many police officers, firefighters and passers-by on the wrong end of a stinger.

"People were being stung left and right," said Officer Steve Merchant of the California Highway Patrol. "It was an ugly, ugly scene."

Authorities brought in a cadre of beekeepers armed with smoke machines, and they were able to get the situation under control in about seven hours.
