OK, we'll admit we spend about as much time chattering on phone, e-mail and text messages as any Hollywood agent, drug dealer or 14-year-old girl. It's hard out there for us content pimps, and we gotta keep business moving. But we found out it might not be such a good idea to be constantly tapping out orders all day on the small screen. A new study determined excessive use of e-mail and text messaging can be considered a mental illness.
Here are the symptoms (according to Dr. Gerald Block):
-- Suffering from feelings of withdrawal when a computer cannot be accessed.
-- Increased need for better equipment.
-- Need for more time to use it.
-- Experiencing negative repercussions from the addiction.
Question raised: Do you have any symptoms? Tell us.
We list our personal symptoms after the jump.
Yeah, we're getting that techno overload. Here are our symptoms:
-- Depression over the inability to escape the minutiae of our girlfriend as she's shopping for jeans.
-- Mood swings as we correspond on the sly with that hot girl from high school who e-mails racy photos directly to our phone.
-- Feelings of inadequacy when our admittedly sketchy come-on results in the hot girl saying she's actually going back to the football player she chose over us in high school.
-- Paranoia over whether our girlfriend will figure out that we've been down with electronic OPP while she's jeans shopping.
