Tax season can be stressful -- sometimes filling out your forms for the IRS is the kind of thing best done accompanied by a stiff drink. Or two.One enterprising tax preparer based in Hoboken, NJ, has hit upon a magic formula: doing business inside of bars. Carmine Sodora, CPA, founded Tavern Tax three years ago, and, for the ten weeks leading up to the April 15 tax deadline, he brings his services to bars on weeknights and on the weekends. Sodora says he wanted to expand his business, and was looking to get more work from "yuppies."
So far, the business seems to be a success, with Sodora reporting a 75 percent rate of customer return.
"It's more relaxed. Everyone hates to do their taxes," Hoboken resident Juliet Murphy is quoted as saying. "If you can combine it with something you like, it numbs the tax pain."
