Man Accused of Forcing His Grandma to Go Gangsta for Video

"F*** you if you don't like this," "I'll shoot you," and "Palm Beach County, b*tch."

These are just a few of the lines Florida's Michael Alfinez allegedly coerced his senile grandmother to say while he shot a video for his "Gangstas and Thugs" DVD series.

Deputies in Palm Beach began looking into the case when the video was seized during a traffic stop earlier this year. Yesterday, they arrested 18-year-old Alfinez, who admitted to telling his dotty 85-year-old grandma, Marie Huertas, to wear a ski mask, hold a gun and drop some gangsta science.

The police report notes that Huertas appears "disoriented" in the video as she issues threats and profanities.

At one point in the video, she also threatens to shoot "all the pigs." The Smoking Gun reports that when investigators showed the video to Huertas "she appeared to be shocked," and said "they are making a criminal out of me."

This is a simple case of bad parenting. This kid is a real thug wanabe that needs a legal wakeup call. According to reports authorities also have video of him, along with his friends, shooting up the neighborhood and destroying private property which included destroying mailboxs and christmas decorations. If they can make an example of Wesley Snipes for not paying taxes, then they can surly make an example out of this kid.

This kid, maybe he doesn't like Christmas. It's proably not as simple as bad parenting. Better parenting may keep it under the radar but it would still be there. Likely this kid needs more time with a cool aunt.

Geez!!! Can't anyone else see this is spoof? Hollywood does it all the time--it formulaic: You take someone, old lady, nun, priest, toddler, whatever...and you put them in situations they would never be in doing things they would never do. It's funny to see people acting so out of context.

If ever there was a case of elderly abuse this is it. This kid and whoever was behind the camerashould get life with NO chance of parole. And put this poor woman in a home designed to care for her special needs. The only thing that I ever did to my 2 grandmas was love them more than they could love me. My maternal grandma died when I was 11 and I still have issues about it, my paternal grandma passed away less than a year ago, which is still an open wound. It is one thing to let a willing participant do this for fun reasons or to shoot an low budget video or something. But when you are dealing with an elderly person who has some dementia, senile or other mental disability, they won't remember it later. That is just so unfair. I think the grandson took full advantage of the fact that he knew his own grandmother was senile and he was making fun of her. We need to take care of our elderly family members, we don't need to be making fun of them and putting them in the doghouse.

There is a lot of talk about what the Grandmother knew or didn't know. To this, I would point out that even if she did not suffer from dementia, her age would've prevented her from understanding the humor. Humor, unfortunately, is not timeless because it focuses on relevant themes. Obviously, these change with time. Henny Youngman--one of the greatest comedians of all time--couldn't get an HBO special today.

The police say, "she was shocked when she saw the video"? Most of us are 'shocked' when we see ourselves on film for the first time. It never looks on film the way the people being filmed see it in their mind's eye. (The same for the sound of our voice on tape) Also, the film has been heavily edited so, there is not the sense of chronology that the grandmother probably expects. The scene changes etc. proably confused the hell out of her. If she could be shown the unedited footage of just what they shot of her, I bet she wouldn't be half as 'shocked'.

So RB, you argument would be that "If you have no budget, you have no right to artistic expression"? I think we are already too controlled by commercialized media. It was spoof, satire. Nobody was portrayed being killed or hurt and there is no way anyone can take the Grandmother as a serious threat. Because of her age, she may not have 'fully' understood what she was doing but, she couldn't be too surprised that they made her look like a criminal when they put her in a skull cap, handed her a gun, told her to point it and had her say, F*** you, you West Palm Beach B****!! How could she reasonably have thought that would look? Plus, if she is so 'senile', how did she remember her lines? How did she take direction? Sounds to me like she enjoyed interacting with her grandson! There is a BIG difference between having age related short-term moemory problems and being 'senile'.

Show me a single young aspiring film artist whom hasn't been arrested and I'll show you one that nobody has ever heard of. It was funny and I'll bet that Granny would make another movie in a second! If she were REALLY senile, the police wouldn't have bothered showing her the video. Having worked with elderly people in various states of dementia, I can tell you that they would act one of two ways: A) Complete non-recollection of the event. Either because they really don't but more likely because they are afriad they are in trouble (police involvement tends to give people that idea) or B) belligerence, "Yeah, I did it, what're ya gonna do about it!!??" Many old people feel they've done enough for society and everyone else and have thus earned the right to do whatever they want without being harrassed. (Some merit to this so long as nobody gets hurt) At worst, this filmaker and his grandmother are an abatable nuisance. But, even an abatable nuisance has rights under the first ammendment.
