Scientists discovered they can mimic marijuana's soothing effects, but without the paranoia and impaired thinking, by using naturally occurring chemicals in the body .University of California researchers determined this by monitoring brains dosed with marijuana's active ingredient, THC. After boosting levels of naturally occurring chemicals, they were able to replicate the drug's painkilling ability.
The findings may lead to the development of drugs with the same medical benefits of marijuana, but without concerns over legality.
