(Our happy hour fact to amaze your drinking buddies with.)

The largest squid ever discovered -- weighing in at 1,089 pounds, and 26 feet long -- will be dissected by scientists in order to help determine how these mysterious deep-sea creatures live.

A member of the aptly named Colossal Squid species, the animal's corpse was netted by fishermen last year and only recently removed from a freezer to thaw for an autopsy that will be broadcast live on the Internet.

Steve O'Shea, a squid expert at Auckland, New Zealand's University of Technology and one of the scientists conducting the examination, estimates that the squid would be able to make calamari rings the size of tractor tires if cut up.

(Unfortunately, the rings would taste like ammonia due to a compound found in the animals' skin, foiling any plans for the John Deere 5000 Appetizer Special.)
