Perhaps I'm being stuffy, and this piece is supposed to be amusing after all, but the use of the word "transvestite" does cause some confusion, since not all XY people who wear clothing of the other gender are truly transvestites. The word applies to a form of fetishism, where males (almost exclusively males, there are rare exceptions) achieve sexual arousal from cross dressing. Generally, these men are heterosexual, and have no interest in having sex with men -- although as with everything, there are exceptions. True transvestites generally don't have any body modifications -- the clothing is enough.
In contrast, transsexuals are people who wish to be the opposite gender. There are probably an equal number of male to females as female to males, and surgery is common. Genetic males may have their foreheads reduced, and the Adam's Apple shaved. Voical cord surgery can alter the voice. While some of the signs described remain valid, a transsexual with a large bank account can be very convincing.
Given that, along with the great variation between perfectly normal individuals, anyone trying to clock a transvestite by these rules will probably wind up with a lot of false positives. It's probably not worth the trouble. Yes, there are transvestite hookers around, but they're really rare. The overwhelming majority of transvestites just want to put on a dress and have sex with their wives.
