If you're bored with reality and ready to accept the challenge of being "The One," you may soon get your chance to shine in cyberspace.Brookhaven National Laboratory computer scientist Michael McGuigan recently predicted that a "Matrix"-style virtual world could be up and running in just a few years.
McGuigan believes that a world in which people cannot always distinguish between what's real and what's not is within reach. He has been able to use ray-tracing software on the lab's sped-up supercomputer to mimic natural light.
Of course, this eye-fooling virtual beam is a technological marvel, but unfortunately, it's not nearly powerful enough to make the "Matrix" sequels comprehensible. We'll just have to continue waiting for that advancement.
