(Our happy hour fact to amaze your drinking buddies with.)

Researchers studying the behavior of 11 species of tropical bats have found that the flying mammals can emit sounds reaching 140 decibels, far exceeding the 115 to 120 decibels emitted during a loud rock concert.

The Panamanian bats monitored in the study use their powerful echolocation calls to hunt small insects. Because the calls are on frequencies above the range of human hearing, their intensity was previously unknown.

If it had been known, we imagine an envious Ozzy Osbourne would have bitten off many, many more bat heads.
