Researchers studying the behavior of 11 species of tropical bats have found that the flying mammals can emit sounds reaching 140 decibels, far exceeding the 115 to 120 decibels emitted during a loud rock concert. The Panamanian bats monitored in the study use their powerful echolocation calls to hunt small insects. Because the calls are on frequencies above the range of human hearing, their intensity was previously unknown.
If it had been known, we imagine an envious Ozzy Osbourne would have bitten off many, many more bat heads.

Well, as usual, the human race is deeply disappointing to me. What I fail to understand is this: Why can't people see that it's the HUMAN population that needs to be "thinned," as we continue to decimate and destroy natural habitats worldwide. I also have a strong feeling (having lived in the Southwest all my life) that few hunters have the skills to cleanly kill most anything, let alone an elephant. Another reason to boycott countries. Count me out for any future trips to South Africa...not that I planned on going anyhow.
