If you were driving a car conveying your child and a case of beer, and only had one extra seat belt, which would you choose to buckle up?Wait, don't answer yet. An Australian driver was recently fined $750 for leaving a 5-year-old boy unrestrained while transporting a case of beer buckled in a seat belt.
The boy was reportedly seated on the floor and the 30-can carton was strapped in between two adults.
The constable who pulled the driver over in the central Australian town of Alice Springs said he was "shocked and appalled" by the finding, and that the incident was the first time he'd seen beer take priority over a child. (Pretty amazing given that he works in Australia.)
As much as we like beer, get the kid buckled up. It would be one thing if they were bottles, but cans?

hey, whose business is it whether or not i buckle my kid- me. not the govt. not the state. the state doesn't own your child and the only laws should be those that make killing and stealing illegal not whether or not my kid eats fast food, or climbs trees or that he plays in the woods and goes fishing without me tethered to his waist. seatbelts etc. are a choice and no one elses business.

It IS their business to protect your child from your stupidity!!!! However, if you choose to not wear one as an adult then it should not be required. You obviously haven't seen the results of a small child thrown 10-15 feet from a vehicle due to lack of restraints. It's people like you that need to get educated or not have children.

I agree with Ericka. As an adult you should decide whether to risk your life by not wearing a seatbelt. Children, who rely on their parents to protect them, should always be buckled. Nic has the attitude of "it's my child and I can kill them if I want to". Car accidents, yes ACCIDENTS happen every day. I see your point to a degree in that the government is too much involved in our lives, but come on.... can't you find a better example to prove so.

No it is not a choice! It is a law and when it comes to a child it is YOUR responsibility and that of the law to protect your child. The law says it isn't okay to have sex with your two year old. Does that mean you think it is cause it's your kid? Get real. The law is out there to protect children from idiots which you should start classifying yourself as. Ever seen a person when they go through a windshield? It isn't pretty and most don't walk away from it. Do you leave loaded guns out too? Lets just let um play with one. nic are you serious????? wearing a seatbelt is the law!!! maybe you should go inside a busy trauma center and see a child that has been thrown from the car because of an ignorant parent not making them buckle up!!! I have seen what the outcome of no seatbelt does and believe me its horrible!!!!! u should drive 60mph with no seatbelt and slam into a parked car to feel the pain of the windshield and the pavement!!!!!!
