Italy is known for having produced some of the greatest artists in the history of the world: Michelangelo, Leonardo, Raphael. Now the country's conservative side has led to a clampdown on a photographer on the, er, cutting edge of art's evolution: the upskirt shot.

That's right, they've arrested a man in Venice for his groundbreaking series of furtive photographs up the skirts of women in the city's historic St. Mark's Square.

The 38-year-old Italian photographer (whom police would not name) faces from six months to four years in prison for using a hidden camera in his bag to take photos up the skirts of 3,000 women over a period of two years.

Police became suspicious of the man when they noticed that he only followed women with short skirts, and that he would try to angle his bag behind them when they stopped or bent down to pick something up.

Italy, such a romantic place.
