Thou Shalt Not Kill ... Except (1985)
The plot: This low-budget horror film follows a group of reunited war veterans who take the law into their own hands when a Manson-like cult starts killing people.
The weirdness: "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi steals the show as the over-the-top cult leader who kills a guy with a lawn dart. (Just in case you're wondering, the scene in which Raimi covers his hand in blood and squeezes a woman's breast is not safe for work.)
Wizards (1977)
The plot: An epic fantasy about a war between wizards in a post-apocalyptic future directed by Ralph Bakshi -- the guy who made the adult cartoons "Fritz the Cat" and "Lord of the Rings."
The weirdness: Bakshi literally animated over World War II footage, turning soldiers into demons and mutants. These creepy battle sequences were like nothing ever seen before. Not surprisingly, it couldn't compete with the other big movie that year, "Star Wars." Coincidentally, the original title of this movie was "Wizard Wars," but George Lucas convinced the director to change the name.
