Head (1968)

The plot: The first feature film starring The Monkees, Davy, Mickey, Mike and Peter explore various movie clichés found in westerns, boxing and war movies.

The weirdness: Where to begin? For starters, War is shown as the ultimate football game. Later, the groups' screaming teenybopper fans are juxtaposed with images of violence in Cambodia. Then they lead cheerleaders in a chant of "W-A-R!" Oh and Frank Zappa walks through the film leading a talking cow on a leash. It's pretty trippy stuff, but believe it or not, G-rated. So feel free to drop some acid with the kids for this family movie night treat.

Operation Dumbo Drop (1995)

The plot: Disney produced this feel-good Vietnam movie where a jaded army captain (Ray Liotta) learns life lessons from a retiring army captain (played by a smiling Danny Glover) while the two men lead a ragtag crew on a mission to deliver an elephant to a peasant village.

The weirdness:
The movie suggests that not only did America win the war, but we did it with our superior morality. The holier-than-Mao attitude is off-set by scenes of Ray Liotta administering elephant rectal suppositories. Note: The only clip we could find was this Spanish-language trailer. We feel this actually improves the footage.
