It's never a good idea to get behind the wheel after a few drinks. Apparently, it's also not advisable to get on wheels and attempt to drunkenly navigate a motorized wheelchair. This was evidenced recently when motorists on the Captain Cook Highway in Northeastern Australia were forced to swerve around a wheelchair during their commute. Driving the chair was a 64-year-old man whose blood-alcohol content was six times the legal limit when authorities apprehended him.
"There are also other classes of vehicles that are subject to drink-driving laws," explained a police spokesperson. "People should be aware that drink-driving laws cover these kinds of vehicles, but also others like horses and bicycles."
However, unlike some humans, we're guessing even an intoxicated horse would have enough sense to steer clear of a major highway.
Sorry, but a weird DUI won't get you on this list ...
Here's some more people who made regrettable choices ...

THIS MAN SHOULD FIGHT THAT CHARGE. HIS WHEEL CHAIR IS HIS LEGS. IT IS THE ONLY WAY FOR HIM TO GET AROUND. (UNLESS HE COULD WALK, AND WAS JUST TAKING A RIDE)
THE MOST THEY SHOULD HAVE CHARGED HIM WITH IS OBSTRUCTING THE HIGHWAY. DRUNK DRIVING! IT IS LIKE GIVING A DUI TO A PERSON WHO IS WALKING. IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE.

I'm in a wheelchair, and I would NEVER dream of getting onto a major highway after I had a few drinks.

Austrilia is a socialist country and that is why the govermnent is so heavy handed and the citizens have so little rights. They took away all the guns now they can do whatever to the people.

At first I thought it was dumb to give a person a DUI in a wheelchair....But it makes sense now, especially since he was utilizing a motorize wheelchair.....He should of stayed on the sidewalk!

The cops chased my ex on his horse when he was drunk but weren't able to catch him. They came to his house the next day and arrested him for DUI. We thought he could beat it, but with Judge Hitler residing over the Tallapoosa, GA city court, we were wrong.

I agree with one of the comments about why there are parking lots at bars....but that's why I moved to a city where I can walk! One or two stiff drinks can be a dui, cabs are great if you can afford it but can you afford a dui? I had one cost 5 grand total, but a wheelchair? or bike? or horse? come on, oh forgot catalina island in CA loves to charge duis in people in golf carts...no joke

South Carolina has a law that you must be at least 16 and have a valid driver license to operate a golf cart, even on the golf course

This makes me long for the good old days when police would have just pulled him over, called someone to come get him, and then go on about their business, instead of issuing a citation and running him downtown.

Actually he should have been charged with public intoxication. A DUI is suitable because he was on the roadway. You can get DUIs on bicycles, mopeds and motorcycles, a motorized wheelchair is the same concept. Also his alcohol level was 6 times the legal limit! Perhaps officers felt he deserved a higher charge, he might have a record of public intoxications and maybe this is what is needed to have him put away.

I have to disagree. 2 of our horses managed to get out of their pasture and into our apple orchard where they proceeded to eat the fermented apples off the ground. They were souced.
When we tried to get them the took off running erradically down the road. We finally got them walked them home and put them in their stalls. One layed down and slept it off the other fell asleep standing leaning againt the wall. We're lucky they didn't colic. We re-nicknamed them stubble bum & sot.
Riding drunk may not kill you but you will fall off a lot.

Are you people kidding? The police did this guy a favor! ANY public drunkenness is a hazard. This guy could have killed himself, or caused a traffic pileup!
It is NOT a "violation of his rights" to be arrested! NOBODY has a "right" to be drunk in public!

Exactly What IS the legal limit in Australia? They said this guy was six times over the limit. It must be .01% blood alcohol. Walk by a beer and inhale and you are drunk. How ridiculous. If you make the legal limit .001 %, then when a person has one beer you can say he was 250 times over the legal limit.
It isn't drinking drivers who kill, but incompetent drivers. The fact that they may be drinking only exagerates their basic ineptness. They should never have gotten a license sober.
