We're not sure what was on TV in 1966 in the former Yugoslavia, but it was the last thing seen by a woman whose remains have only recently been found.Hedviga Golik, who was born in 1924, was discovered by police in the Croatian capital of Zagreb, long-dead and sitting in her armchair in front of her black-and-white television.
The deceased had been reported missing 42 years ago, and neighbors say they thought she had moved away to live with relatives. Oddly though, the police only recently broke in to try to determine who owned the apartment and they still have not figured out how the woman could have been reported missing so long ago without anyone checking the residence.
"When officers went there, they said it was like stepping into a place frozen in time," a police spokesman said. "The cup she had been drinking tea from was still on a table next to the chair she had been sitting in ... Nothing had been disturbed for decades, even though there were more than a few cobwebs in there."
A neighbor, fittingly, remembered Golik as "a quiet woman who kept herself to herself."

I don't believe it either. It just doesn't make sense that no one would check up on this apartment for 42 years. I mean get real! The smell alone would have driven someone to call the police before 42 years. This is an urban legend!

That has been my question for those bodies who, rare as it is, are found dead not noticed for years or months. Who pays the bills and is anyone so alone in this world that they are NOT really missed?!

Who said anyone was paying her bills? She probably owned the apartment or it was a goverment issued apartment. After awhile the electric etc. would be turned off and people assumed she moved away.

It's hard to believe this story.
1. Smell of decay. It's strong enough that it could've traveled through the vents and somebody noticed.
2. NOBODY called her house several times without a call-back?
3. It's called not paying the bills. It's also called the greedy bank or whomever she had to pay.
4. While investigating, IF investigating, the police would've entered her residence to look for a ransom note or whatnot.
I'm puzzled by how this is possible. @.@

This is evidence of a "civilized high tech society". She may be living in a small town in another continent; but it shows how isolated we can become if we don't maintain constant contact with others i.e. families & esp neighbors. This can happen any where in the world, esp here in the USA. Garage door openers, drive through banking, shopping, fast food, laundry, filling prescriptions, weddings, web dating, web cam etc....all these keep one away from physical contact with other individuals. People get & stay in touch with each other.

Hey, coming from another country...I believe it. What about the story a few months ago here in the US about the lady who was stuck to a toilet seat for two years while her boyfriend tried to coax her out of the bathroom? She was in the can for two years. You would have thought some of her friends would notice her missing? That was a true story so I do believe this one....You never know.
