For some reason, professional women's sports organizations have only recently caught on to the marketing maxim that sex sells. A couple of weeks ago we told you about how the WNBA had started a class for rookies about how to put on makeup and dress when they're off the court. Now, a modeling agency is sticking top golfers in bikinis, evening gowns and lingerie in order to snag promotional and sponsorship contracts. The agency, Wilhelmina Artist Management, has handpicked a group of seven LPGA pros, including Kim Hall and Anna Grzebien.
"There was simply not enough pizazz on the LPGA Tour," said Wilhelmina's Dieter Esch. "The players had no representation to speak of, no advertisements to speak of. It's a crime, so Wilhelmina is taking it upon itself to change that."
With Tiger Woods' bad knee, we're thinking some promotional deals will be freed up for these ladies. Only time will tell if that means TV spots of Kim Hall talking up Gillette's unique ability to shave an armpit.
