Spain Prefers Balls to Boobs

It's fiesta time in Spain, as their perennially underachieving national soccer team won its first major title in 44 years. But some Spanish pornographers and erotic performers are feeling a little bittersweet about the historic victory.

That's because the Red Fury's undefeated run to the European Championship coincided with the International Erotic Film Festival of Barcelona (FICEB). Held annually, the world-renowned event featuring adult films, strippers, live sex shows and appearances by porn stars generally draws over 50,000 visitors. But this year, the lore of flesh wasn't enough to avert Spanish eyes from Euro 2008, dropping attendance at the three-day sex-tival to only 15,000.

"Football is one of the few things that can compete with sex," conceded FICEB director Juli Simon.

For sex in Spain, we suspect this will only be a temporary setback. In fact, we're betting in about nine months there will be a spate of Spanish Euro 2008 Championship babies.
