A Washington-based research group analyzed nearly 1,000 sunscreen lotions and found that four out of five offer inadequate UV and UVB protection and contain harmful chemicals.The Environmental Working Group recently published the findings, which maintain that some of the worst offenders are big names Coppertone, Banana Boat and Neutrogena.
This stokes long-standing concerns that people rely too much on sunscreen, which does not offer blanket protection from the sun and does little to prevent skin cancer.
Meanwhile, the FDA has not commented and seems satisfied with the set of recommendations they drafted 30 years ago.
(Though the older gentleman in the photo above is not a happily clueless FDA official, you get the point.)
