Fashion designer Miguel Caballero understands that if you lead the high life in crime-ridden Colombia, you should be able to look good while being sprayed by automatic gunfire. In fact, Caballero has designed a whole line of bulletproof clothing for men and women, including guayaberas, polo shirts, jackets and even an updated version of the classic bulletproof vest. His leather jacket weighs only a few pounds, and nobody would suspect that you had full protection.
In addition to size runs, customers can seek a specific level of protection -- low will only withstand 9MM slugs and high will take on gunfire from Uzis and other automatics.
A few items sell for as low as $2,000, but you'll have to shell out $10 Gs for the polo shirt that withstands automatic weapon fire.
We just hope the bad guys don't start using flamethrowers.
In case you get hit in the head, check out these badass graves:

Funny how it says that the low strength one will stop a 9 mm, and the high will stop an Uzi -- the Uzi shoots a 9 mm....
more proof that those in the media know little/nothing about firearms.

You'd be better off not referring to bloggers as "the media". If we wanted to be informed, and double check sources, etc, we would be called "journalists".
My bad on the 9MM round. To clarify, the "Low" protection will protect the wearer from a single 9MM round, from a revolver, as opposed to repeated 9MM fire.
here endeth the gun lesson.

i think what they mean by the difference of a 9mm from a hand gun and 9mm from an uzi is that the handgun can at best be semi-automatic, where the uzi fires more rounds much faster. Therefore, i am sure the design of the material would need to be different.
There's a big difference, and you'd know if you've ever participated in paintpall or airsoft arenas. if you've had any experience with those, you'd know it is painless getting shot once, but multiple times in the same place will hurt like a bitch.
1 shot - one material - multiple rounds, stronger material - i see his point. why are people so negative if they dont understand something? just try to find out yourself instead of being so negative? it's just stupid.
i want to have the polo jacket, myself! :-)

Who cares what calibre of bullet they stop? It's a polo shirt that stops gunfire! You'd feel like Batman! Hooray!

First come and live in Colombia, then write about how life is here... don't just write "if you lead the high life in crime-ridden Colombia" because of all the bad media we get, start being a good reporter and have some respect for other countries and their people... next time just don't mention any country in specific!

tengo mucho respeto para su pais. The designer is Colombian and designed his clothing while studying in Bogata. So I guess he must have gotten the idea from the sky, rather than living in a country with a 30-plus-year civil war.

Theres something called muzzle velocity. The caliber of the bullet has a lot to do with how much power the bullet has and so does the speed of the bullet.
Did you honestly think that a revolver is exactly the same as an MP5 except for auto vs single shot?
From Wikipedia:
9mm MP5 muzzle velocity: 400 meters/s
9mm Police revolver muzzle velocity: 220 meters/s

Since when do police carry 9mm "revolvers" anyway? ROFL
The only 9mm revolvers that have ever been in production were never used as police issue weapons. If you knew what a 9mm revolver was then you would know why no cop would carry one as a service issue weapon. Too funny. I just can't picture cops swapping out half and full moon clips. LOL
I'm sure a 9mm pistol is what was really meant. And as far as Wikipedia is concerned, if a 9mm only does 220 meters/s muzzle velocity from a pistol, revolver, or any other kind of handgun, then they REALLY need to recalibrate their chronographs.
There is a good reason that Wikipedia is never accepted as a credible source of information for anything that really matters. It does make a good info base for conversation, but if you want dependable information then you need to cite a much more credible source.
A fully automatic weapon has no more muzzle energy than a similarly chambered handgun, the cartridges are loaded with exactly the same powder and bullet weights. The only difference is in how many rounds can go downrange with a single pull of the trigger. And you will never see two rounds strike a target in the exact same spot, especially if the shooter is in a high stress situation, like an attack. So the description in the original article really does come across as rather silly given that a submachine gun is simply a fully automatic handgun, chambered for handgun cartridges, that is usually equipped with a buttstock.
This is a rather silly conversation. LOL

Don't blame Wikipedia for this asshead's misuse. The benefit to using Wikipedia is that all the sources are clearly labeled and linked, if they aren't then you go somewhere else. If you have qualms about using Wikipedia for information it just shows your own lack of ability to uses sources to verify information.

If this thing can stop any bullets I am impressed as hell! Did you watch the video and see how thin and flexible that shit is? I would never need one but it would be sick to say "yea, its bullet proof".
