Because of Hollywood schlock like "Hollow Man" and "Memoirs of an Invisible Man," a lot of guys assume being invisible would be extremely lame. Now that invisibility is looking like a realistic possibility, they may want to reconsider.Scientists at Berkeley have engineered a material that can bend light around small objects -- effectively making them invisible.
The researchers -- whose work is funded by the U.S. military -- have created materials that make it possible to control the direction light travels. Previous research in London had similar success using microwaves, but the ability to bend light in this way is seen as a major breakthrough.
Xiang Zhang, head of the research, feels that bending light may make it possible to create a cloak of invisibility for large objects. Hear that, all you wannabe Wonder Women out there? You better start saving up if you want to properly pimp out your plane.
