Cooking show pioneer Julia Child was a spy for the United States government during World War II.Child was part of an international spy ring managed by the Office of Strategic Services, an intelligence agency President Franklin Roosevelt created as an early version of the CIA. The organization's classified documents were recently opened, revealing that Child and nearly 24,000 others were OSS operatives.
Before the OSS was disbanded in 1945, agents were tasked with studying military plans, creating propaganda, infiltrating enemy ranks and stirring resistance among foreign troops.
