When you failed to lose your virginity in the backseat of your dad's 1986 Ford Taurus, aka "The T-Bird," you probably thought it was your inability to unhook a bra that turned off your date. Turns out it may have been the car.

Scientists recently discovered the sweet purr of a luxury sports car's engine is arousing to women. These researchers, who are probably wondering if this is all their advanced degrees are good for, tested men's and women's saliva after listening to recordings of the revving engines of a Maserati, a Lamborghini and a Ferrari, along with a Volkswagen Polo. They found significant increases in women's levels of testosterone (a measure of arousal) after listening to the first three cars.

Psychologist David Moxon said, "We saw significant peaks, particularly in women. The roar of a luxury car engine does cause a primeval physiological response."

The Polo actually caused a decrease in testosterone, so if you drive one, you may want to record the sound of a nicer car's engine for bedside playback.
