A social networking site for analysts within the 16 United States intelligence agencies is now online.A-Space is still in beta, but it will be officially launched on September 22. The goal of the site is to prevent the kind of lapses in inter-agency communication that may have contributed to 9/11 by pooling all intelligence agents in one easy-to-access place.
"It is every bit Facebook and YouTube for spies," said Michael Werthmeir, assistant deputy director of national intelligence. Since such a system would be particularly vulnerable to exploitation by double agents, its creators have installed tracking software which alerts users to suspicious activity on their personal pages.
In other words, trolling A-Space for information on the hot new spook down the hall would likely get an analyst a visit from some very serious-looking men.
