What would you do if your stepfather took out student loans in your name, thus preventing you from going to an expensive grad school? A recent Sacramento State grad's solution was to try her hand at the world's oldest profession. But there is a catch. "Natalie Dylan" (a pseudonym) claims to be a virgin and is auctioning off her maidenhood.
Natalie will provide polygraph results and a gynecological exam to prove her purity, and the deflowering will take place at Nevada's famous Bunny Ranch, making the whole transaction legal.
It was initially reported that Howard Stern would preside over the auction, but the shock jock, who did have Natalie on his show, has angrily denied the suggestion he would involve himself in something so sordid. On the other hand, Natalie argues, "We live in a capitalist society, so why shouldn't I be allowed to capitalize on my virginity?"
What do you think? Is losing it for profit just a potentially lucrative business venture, or is it an immoral act with long-term negative ramifications? Debate and vote below.
Solid financial planning
-- Because of the formality of the arrangement, the act will probably go down on a fairly comfortable bed. Whereas a more conventionally bartered deflowering would take place in a wooded area behind a keg party or in the cramped half-bathroom of somebody parents' basement.
-- If there is one thing porn has taught us, it's that there isn't just one type of virginity. So if Natalie enjoys the experience, she can try to double her money with option number two.
-- Allegedly, a women in Peru tried this stunt, and the final bid was 1.5 million dollars.
One-way ticket to a life of shame
-- Pseudonym or not, if she goes through with her scheme, there is a good chance her real name will get on the Internet. If so -- unless her real name is something tricky like Oprah Winfrey -- boyfriends, potential employers and future grandchildren will keep uncovering her sexploits.
-- This is a reality show waiting to happen. And living down the stigma of being both a prostitute and a reality TV show participant is too much for one women to bear.
-- Even Howard Stern wanted no part of it.
