In America, soccer and women who wear loose-fitting clothing are both relatively unpopular. Perhaps that's why we found it difficult to understand why a Dutch football association would bar an amateur women's team from making their games sexier by exchanging their baggy regulation uniforms for a figure-flattering ensemble including a short skirt.

Having apparently come to their senses, the association recently reversed the ruling and decreed the skirts acceptable since the girls wear shorts underneath them. Since the uniform switch-up, the ladies of FC de Rakt have raised the hits on the club's Web site to hundreds of thousands per week and drawn camera crews from all around the country. Still, the players claim they are not courting attention.

"We think they are far more elegant than the traditional shorts and furthermore they are more comfortable because the shorts are made for men," said 21-year-old captain Rinske Temming.

We can't help but postulate that the girls might be even more comfortable with less clothing on. Bikinis, for example, can be extremely elegant (why else would Miss America wear one?). Watch a video of the women on the field after the jump.
