Fusajiro Yamauchi founded a playing card company in Kyoto, Japan on this day in 1889. Little did he know that a century later, his small venture would go on to create a video gaming system so influential that young people would not only play it incessantly, but also permanently imprint its most popular emblems into their flesh. But that's exactly what they did.
In the gallery below are either the most passionate Nintendo fans out there or simply a bunch of folks with little regard for their own appearance. Regardless, these tattoos reminded us of a simpler time. A time when we spent hour after hour in our parents' basements attempting to defeat a clan of evil mushrooms with a crude Italian stereotype. Those were the good old days, though they were probably not good enough for us to go as far as these people did.

I have noticed something. Those who hate tattoos are doing most (if not all) the name-calling. I'm a 37 year old professional with 1 Masters degree and in the middle of my second. I don't have a tattoo (yet), but I think that many of them are beautiful. People get tattoos for many different reasons. A friend of mine lost his child, and had a tattoo of his child on his arm. Many people get tattoos to remember people who died or to express their beliefs, etc. I don't think it is right to call people idiots over this. It is not hurting you. No one is forcing you to get a tattoo. If they want tattoos, more power to them.

I think we agree to disagree. So far the best statement made on this blog: "people with no tattoos will never understand why people with tattoos get them."
I too have tats that no one sees at my professional level. They all mean something to ME, I care less what anyone else thinks.

Im sorry if this may offend anyone but just shut up already! Who really cares who has a tattoo or not its not your body that is in inked so dont worry about what others have on their bodies its NONE of your BUSSINESS. I dont yet have a tattoo but i am thinking about gettting one. yes i know the cost, yes i know its going to sag when i get older or fade and i also know i will get judge by some people and the pain i will behaving while getting that tattoo but i really dont care! Who ever has a tattoo its their body it means something to them and that tattoo they have on their bodies mostly symbolizes their life and how they are as an individual why on earth would you judge that? It is an way for a individual to express themselves. You may not agree on getting tattoos but you shouldnt go judge others people just because they have tattoos everyone is different why would we ever not get a tattoo just because someone tells us that we shouldnt. WHy should we listen to you? its our bodies, our life , you dont control it we do, we make our own desicions most of the time not you. so stop being so stop being so arrogant and instead of judging how ugly or stupid getting a tattoois and the people who have them and maybe actually find out why they got that tattoo and how much it means to them? hmm you might learn something!

My take on it is that those who aren't tatted and are being judgmental asses are really the lemmings here. They're too scared to go against the norm, too unimaginative to have a unique thought, too coded into the conservative thought-speak to make an independent opinion, and therefore can't imagine the courage, imagination and determination that comes with deciding on, and getting, a tattoo.
I've been wanting a tattoo for more than 10 years and have only just selected the image I would like. And, yes, I am an educated (Masters), successful female. So there.

A tattoo is like graffiti, the only difference is when you outgrow the graffiti, you wash it off or repaint the wall.
Tattoos remind me of little kids that don't know enough not to write on the walls with crayons.

I think people who constantly worry what other people look like are very annoying and nosy, if someone's tattoos bother you so much then just don't look at them, people who are bothered because of someone's tattoos or the way they dress should just not look at them, it isn't that hard. I am so sick of the fact that the majority of people in today's world is full of ignorant, rude, mean people who only care about judging others and obsessing about how someone dresses or tattoos themselves, and just plain being mean all the time... Stop being so nosy and just get a life! P.S those tattoos are awesome.

I can not believe how narrow-minded you people are...Just because we get tattoos does not mean that we hate ourselves and the skin we have...We get them because the remind us of something special...It takes months sometimes years to draw and plan out a tattoo...Took me 5 years...My mother has 2. She is 58. In fact she got her second tattoo when she was 53. 4 months after her 23 year old son died... Just about all my brothers and cousins and uncles and aunts got a tattoo just in remembrance of him...For some that was there first tattoo...Do not try and put us down and make us feel less then we are...You have not the right to do that...If you want to bitch about something, then do it over something that is important, go bitch about which presidential person you want to win or lose... Bitching about tattoos is so childish...Just get over it...

"right away it tells someone about your personality without even getting to know you"
Then tell me what you know about me, if that's what you think.
It's so nice to know that these days, I not only can be judged according to the color of my skin, but also what I've done with it. From the comments I've read, there's a multitude of people out there who are too ignorant to realize that judging people is senseless. You don't like tattoos, that's fine. But is anyone making you get one? No. So until people start MAKING you go out there and ink yourself, keep your depraved, judging thoughts to yourselves, you mindless twits.
Most of us in the gaming community would call you lemmings.

I like how nothing can be said on the internet without it becoming an arguement. It keeps things interresting & gives me plenty to laugh at. Personally I'm not for or against tats. It's the person's choice what they want to do with their body. Then again, I feel the same way about suicide. If people want to be self destructive it's their choice. haha I kinda sound suicidal.

I think people are taking this way too defensively.
I don't believe people who get tattoos are stupid or inferior or necessarily unhappy with themselves. It's their choice. It's simply a preference. You could argue that getting your hair dyed is stupid and a waste of money. I don't have a tattoo, but I do think some of them are cool or cute. Others I think look trashy. Either way, tattoos should not define how you treat a person.
