Race is still a tricky minefield to traverse when it comes to dating, and perhaps no ethnic group is sicker of being fetishized by horny losers than Asian women. Everybody knows (or has been) that guy with the thing for Asian girls, but writer Kaitlyn Dreyling is here to put to rest the fantasy of the "submissive lotus flower" with the top 10 things you should never say to an Asian woman. (Remember, you want to have a happy ending, not turn her off with a stupid joke about one.)(Also check out 10 Things You Should Never Say to a Black Woman and 10 Things You Should Never Say to a Tall Woman.)
10. "Where are you from? No, where are you really from?" (There are such Asians that are actually born in America. Don't think we're all from "the Orient.")
9. "Ni Hao. Konnichiwa. Etc." (First of all, she might not be Chinese or Japanese. Secondly, she might only speak English. Thirdly, back to #10, some of us are actually born in America.)
8. "Do you date white (black, Latino) guys?" (If you're trying to see if you have a chance, we get that.)
7. "I've always wanted to marry an Asian woman." (Why? Because of the stereotypes of a submissive, cooking, sex slave? Clearly you have an Asian fetish.)
6. "My favorite food is sushi." (And I like pizza, so?)
Read the top five things you shouldn't say after the jump.
5. "My first girlfriend was Chinese/Japanese/Korean." (That just underscores you're a serial fetishist.)
4. "I have a black belt in karate." (I have a yoga class twice a week. Big deal.)
3. "Hey, China doll." (Not a compliment -- another form of stereotyping.)
2. "I'm better built than an Asian dude, if you know what I mean." (Fortunately, you won't need to prove that.)
1. "Me love you long time." (Guess what: Not every Asian woman worked during the Vietnam War as a hooker.)

Just when I thought Ms. Kaitlyn Dreyling had put the stereo-tying to rest...we go and hear about "yellow fever." I have never seen a "yellow" asian. In fact, most of them are every bit as white as caucasians. Go figure.

I'm asked #10 way too often. People just can't believe one is born in America and no, doesn't know any Asian languages.

It goes for asian guys too. When I was in the U.S. Navy, I'd get,"So where in Japan are you from?" Or "Do you know Karate?" Well I do tell them that I know karate cuz I dont want my ass to get beat up!

Are there seriously white guys who do that? Where do all these people live that are posting these strange racial stereotype events, I've never seen a white guy say anything to an asian woman about an eggroll like that.

Wow. You're low. I am an Asian woman, and I would NEVER want to hear those things. In middle school people would crack Asian jokes all the time (e.g. Eat Dog. or Pick it up, you're used to the hard work). Anyone who has the nerve to say that to an Asian girl should get a slap in the face and a high heel square in the balls.

Half of this is totally worthless. Not because they aren't good advices, but because if someone has not figured them out by now, I doubt if these advices would make 'em do that anyway.

I'm an Asian dude and I've heard my fair share of ignorant, stereotypical remarks growing up. Most of them were from White folks.
White people - Stop being ignorant and educate yourselves and your kids.
It isn't funny when you walk into Baskin Robbins and a group of white kids start bowing at you chanting "konnichiwa". Oh, and even worse, their parents don't do a damn thing about it.

I don't know you, and I can't speak for other white people. But when you address all white people as a group, it applies to me, so I'll give you what I think of the situation.
1. You said when you were growing up, which makes me think that your probably about 30 to 40 years old.
2. You said educate your kids, which probably means you have kids of your own, making me think your still probably 30 to 40.
By going on your age being at such, your probably put into late 1960 America, or early 1970 America, a different more racial time for America. Not that I'm by any means supporting racial stereotypes, or discrediting what happened to you, or saying anything negative about you, but I don't think what happens to you, happens very often anymore, and any of this can be subjective to about anything.
For instance maybe you just lived in a small hickish town, or maybe you just saw a group of white people that just happened to be stupid. I've seen my fair share of stupid Asians. Not all white people get C's, and not all Asians get A's, people are human, and humans are never constant.
And I really do think that white people have gotten significantly more racial accepting, and I've never in my life heard someone say "konnichiwa" to an Asian, except in actual Japanese conversation.

I'm 22, and I still experienced this a lot while growing up. I live in the San Francisco Bay Area of California, so it is neither a hick town, and I did not grow up in the 60s or 70s. I can definitely agree that this kind of thing doesn't happen as often anymore, but it does still happen.
I remember 1 specific instance where my middle school English teacher (7th grade, 1998) told me that I spoke English very well, which left my confused because I was born and raised in the US, and English is the only language I speak, and it happened to be my worst subject in school.
The truth of the matter is the ignorance in this article is rare to come by these days (in California anyways), but Asians are still stereotyped in other ways.

I'm actually 26 and I live in one of the most diverse cities in America - Los Angeles.
Believe it or not, it still happens. You probably don't notice because you're white.
Just a week ago, I went to Magic Mountain in Valencia with my girlfriend (who is also Asian) and these two white guys in front of us on the rollercoaster start saying "ching chong ching".
This is just one example and is also the reason why many minorities despise a lot of white people. They just seem to be the most intolerant out of all groups.
I'm just stating the facts.

Seems like somebody dislikes Asian Fetishes. Really, has anyone honestly said these to an Asian girl? So someone obviously likes Asian girls, don't let that be a turn off, if your Asian, and you like them too, then you have an advantage over other girls. Really there's only one thing on this list that debunks any "submissive lotus flower", and that's number 7. However, maybe that's not the motive for wanting to marry an Asian woman, maybe that person wants to settle down for one Asian woman, although I really don't think that should ever be mentioned unless your months into an actual relationship.
