It's been said about Bond movies that the villain reflects the politics of the times. When we were in the Cold War, James Bond's PPK pointed at the Ruskies. After September 11th, 2001, Bond started thwarting terrorists. While that's true and kind of interesting, let's not forget the other underlying theory to all Bond films.
