Even though beauty is in the eye of the beholder, a Florida canine named Gus will always be remembered for being distinctively unattractive.

The Chinese Crested pooch -- spotted, hairless, snaggle-toothed, three-legged and with one blind, bulbous eye -- recently lost his battle with cancer.

In June, Gus won the World's Ugliest Dog contest in California, earning a $1,600 purse that his owner Jeanenne Teed used on radiation treatments to try and cure the tumor in his leg. He subsequently appeared on the Howard Stern radio show and the "Today" show, but his time as a celeb ended when his cancer came back.

The gallery below includes pics of the late great Gus and his competition at this year's contest. With all due respect, we're thinking Pee Wee Martini may have the inside track at next year's competition.
