Women looking for short-term relationships view scarring as an attractive feature in a partner.

Researchers from the University of Liverpool showed study participants images of faces with different levels of scarring, and asked how they would rate them for long- and short-term relationships. Women preferred the scarred men for one-night stands, but those with unmarked skin as life partners.

Earlier findings have demonstrated that women favor men with square jaws for quick sex, but males with more feminine features for cohabitation. In both studies, scientists concluded that women are satisfying their evolutionary urges by using the more masculine-looking men for their sturdy genes, and the less aggro-appearing guys for their perceived caring.

Male participants had no discrepancy in their preferences -- a conclusion which has been pretty much resolved since the beginning of time.
