Yes, dating sometimes -- OK, often -- sucks. First dates are almost predictably bad. Forgotten wallets, nightmare destinations, inappropriate inebriation, the awkward and regrettable scenarios are the stuff of bad dreams come true and enough to scare you away from any type of social life whatsoever. The best way to conquer your fears is to share your horror stories. We convinced some fellow bloggers to spill the beans about their first-date horror stories. Think you can beat any of the following tales? Let us know in the comments.

I met a very handsome Hispanic man at the flea market, very muscular. I was moving to a new apartment. After we had chatted a bit and I kind of liked him,I asked him if he could help me move.He said yes, and he did. Well it didn't take him long. After he got done he laid down on the sofa and asked me to marry him, and then asked for money, he layed there rubbing his hands together, and said, " a lot of men are prostitutes you know", Ugh.. I couldn't wait to get rid of him, but I could not get him to not come around anymore..I paid him $100 for moving the little furniture he moved for me.But it took 3 years and me taking him to court, on an injunction to get him to stop coming around...This guy had a lot of women he used...And he was terribly abusive.Be careful what you get at the flea market..ok..LOL..La

Non of my dates were anywhere near as bad as some of the ones I read.
I can remember being in 9th grade and really liking this one guy,Ben.Well,I was babysitting across from my house and him and a bunch of other guys came by.Now,I was young and had little to no self esteem and was in that faze of really wanting a guy to like me (I had just come out of my really awkward and unattractive faze and had not had a boyfriend yet),so I let them into the house I was babysitting in (I know, stupid, but I was young). These guys were all skateboarding types, the kind of kids who don't have any respect for others. Anyway.needless to say, they went through the house and rummaged through the parents room and found their porn and put it on,in the middle of the day while the kids I was watching were there! Later,I was alone with the guy I really liked and he just kept trying to get in my pants and wanting to have sex with me! I had not seen any of this coming.
I am still very embarrassed by my actions, but it really taught me very quickly that men/boys only want one thing and that some guys are very untrustworthy and disrespectful. Also, the parents found out about this, told my parents and I never got to babysit again,in fact I was too embarrassed to ever look at these people again.
Also,I found out later that one of the guy I likes friends had lied and told him that I was easy, which is the only reason he paid any attention to me. I'm still amazed that at age 13/14,some of the kids in school were already sexual experienced.
One other quick experience on a first date.About 9 years ago I went out with this gorgeous, wonderfully dressed guy.I had thought that I was finally able to date the kind of guyI was attracted too. After the date,we were in my living room listening to music and we began to make out. His kissing was horrid! The best was I have found to describe it is to imagine having a big piece of sushi in your mouth, not moving, not chewing it,just having it sit in your mouth. Now attach a face to it and that's about it. This guy had been in a long term relationship!! Had he learned this "style" of "kissing" from her? Or had she put up with it for years and never taught him how to kiss? I never went out with him again.

I went on a first date, with a man and 6 of his friends. (women and men) We went out for dinner. I guessed he was nervous, so he though it was okay to have this date/ and introduce me to his friends. I agreed to go, so I can't really complain about that. During the duration of the dinner/ from apps- dessert...if anyone left anything on their plate, he would ask them if they were taking it home? If the answer was no? he would tell the waitress to wrap it up/ he would take it home!!! We ended up leaving the restaurant with over 10 little containers of leftover food. And guess who got to help tote them? I was kind of mortified by this behavior(especially on a first date) and I simply wanted to be dropped off at my house. But he wouldn't drop me straight...we had to stop at his house first to put the food in his fridge. We get into his house, I open up the fridge...and there must have been 30-50 other "doggie bags" from previous dinners out? It was really bizarre! I only lived a couple of block away, excused myself and walked home.

I invited the guy out for brunch, and he kept glaring at everyone as we got out food, stating over and over again how much he hated crowds. He then kept checking out other women. I ended up paying for the meal, and for the final insult, he said he wanted our next date to be at a gym- because, and I quote, "I could really help you loose some of that weight."

After reading all these comments I no longer feel like a MORAN for NOT dating. I am completely happy and satisfied with GOD in my life. He will never let me down and he has been there at the last hour when a job loss has occurred, bringing me back to my recovery period. Miracles never cease in my life. I don't miss a sexual partner as much as I thought I would, however. I find that spiritual happiness overrides the superficial "moment" of happiness of having a significant other. People have changed, values, principals, morals, and respect just aren't at the top of anyone's chart these days. That takes the desire out of relationships for me, because without those platforms, lowering my standards will definitely increase my odds. NO THANK YOU.

And the world wants to thank you for keeping out of the gene pool. Enjoy dying in your trailer with your 50 cats while watching your stories. But hey, you've got God, so who cares? By the way, everyone has values, principals, morals, and respect, just probably not as wacked as yours. Open up your mind and you may find someone you can click with. Until then, you and God enjoy watching Project Runway reruns and eating gallons of ice cream on Friday nights, while the rest of us are out will enjoying ourselves with our significant others & friends.

All these stories reminded me of another date I had. I went to the movies with this guy, who was nice looking and neatly dressed, manners-the works. So, what was wrong? He laughed like an asthmatic gorilla. The entire movie! People were shushing him and he ignored them. It wouldn;t have been too bad-but the movie was "Chariots of Fire", which was a serious movie. Not at all a comedy. We left, and he kept asking me why I wasn't laughing-didn't I have a sense of humor? I amswered him without thinking: "I'm here, aren't I?" He suddenly realized he was insulted and he took me home. At least that was easy... (and I kept the story short LOL)

TO PUCK...U responded to my comment and you could not be more off balance. I don't sit at home, I do get out and enjoy Jazz Festivals, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, and Miami, when I feel like traveling. I am a very socialable person, not a homebody. I go to football games, etc., so I don't know where you get off with your bullshit, but you seem to have a GIANT attitude problem and I feel sorry for your dates, wife, or significant other...damn...no wonder I'm better off ROLLIN ALONE!!! HAVING FUN IN THE SUN WITHOUT HAVING TO DEAL WITH BUTT-HEADS LIKE YOU. ENJOY YOUR BLESSINGS.....AND STOP HATING!!! FIND YOUR HAPPINESS.
MINE ISN'T DEALING WITH DRAMA AND STUPID PEOPLE.

At the ripe old age of almost 89, I can remember a few first dates of my own that still make me wince. After reading, and enjoying, the tales told, I guess I'm somewhat relieved to realize I no longer have to fear, first dates.

Well, I have been a bad date before too, I'm sure. This is not so much a date story, but just being a jerk story. I had was single and looking to meet women for a looooong time. I was about 25 at the time and I met this girl from Port St. Lucy online. I am from Philadelphia so I knew it wasn't going to be easy. Anyway, we IM'd, e-mailed and talked on the phone and seemed to really hit it off. She was born in Philly and was always telling me that she was moving back (Yea, I'm a total sucker, I know this). So, she worked in West Palm Beach and my grandmother lived in Palm beach. We had been chatting pretty consistently for that year and some months. (there would be periods were she would not answer the phone or respond to e-mails though...again, I'm a sucker...I didn't see the HUGE red flags that were beating me in the face). My father and I were going to Palm Beach to visit his mother and I was thrilled that this was going to be our big opportunity to finally meet and spend quality time together. I tell her to meet me at the airport. She said she MIGHT meet me there. OF course, I'm looking everywhere for her, and she is no where to be found. That's ok, she didn't make any promises, so I just go with my dad to my grandmother's place. I spend the rest of the evening calling her phone (for some reason, she didn't have voice mail or a cell) so , I sent to bed that night disappointed and feeling a little blown off. But, again, since she didn't make any promises, I couldn't hold it against her.
I finally hear from her the following evening. She said that she was busy that night (again, feeling like if she really wanted to be with me the way she said, she wouldn't HAVE to meet her friends for drinks or whatever in some town I'd never heard of...but whatever, I'm a sucker and have low self-esteem) So, I agreed to meet her early the next evening at the beach right by my grandmothers place. So, that evening I go to the beach...and wait...and wait...and wait...and wait...after about 2 1/2 hours after she was supposed to come (and of course, not answering the phone...and I can't leave a voice mail, text her, etc) I finally have to accept the fact that she blew me off. All that time and effort to make a long distance POSSIBILITY happen was all a colossal waste of time. I could hardly sleep that night I was so angry and humiliated.
So, I don't hear from her for over 2 weeks, I finally get an e-mail from her and it's a freakin' FORWARD. So, I let her have it. I told her that I was so humiliated and hurt that she blew me off and didn't even have the decency to even give me an explanation as to why she didn't show. Do I get an apology? Oh no...I get a response in all caps saying how dare I be mad at her. She left her wallet at her friends house, who lived two hours away so that was 4 hours of driving, she cat had to be taken to the vet for an emergency something or other, she than had car troubles, on and on about all the terrible luck she had that one day we were supposed to meet. Than said that I was just like her father who treated her badly and had just walked out on her. Then ended it with "There, you got your explanation, I hope it was worth ruining our friendship over" She was also indignant that I said she better have a good excuse for flaking out on me, or I can't be friends with you anymore. She saw that as an ultimatum. I couldn't believe this bullcrap. I was the one who travelled 1600 miles and got stood up, yet I'm the jerk?? Yea...well, me being a sucker I calmed her down and pretended I didn't care that she didn't show up, only wanted to know why she didn't show up. But, I always was pissed and of course didn't waster any more time with her anymore. Thank god those days are over...as I'm married with a son now.
