Another, more subtle, way to capture consumers' attention and to stand out from the crowd, is to give your business a name that includes a play on words. Puns help sell everything from coffee to lodging to furniture. Some of these puns are perfect, and some quite imperfect. But it is up to you to decide if they are clever -- or just make you groan.
Puntastic Store Names
Sort of clever, but we would have gone with "The Jerk Store."

The joke is on you, because Fido would be just as happy to lick the grime off of a dirty dish.
Read the sign fast and then go to Subway.

A pun worthy of the cheesy, self-promoting duo who inspired it.
Best Week Ever
This is one of many Wok and Rolls. The best is in Las Vegas, because it completes the pun by doubling as a karaoke lounge.
"We'll batter anything." Now that's an offer you can't refuse.

Any establishment with such a name should offer a chamomile tea smoothie for the times you over stuff.
Ebaumsworld
Apparently, that's what happened to this hair salon's clientele.
Cool Web Pics
Spex sells -- especially in the the optometry game.
Losu.urg
We'd just settle for pizza without the heartburn.

A storefront sign serves two functions: to explain what the store does and to stand out enough so that passersby never forget what the store does. The latter is the more challenging part of the equation, and has led to such innovations as flashing neon, bigger signs and buildings shaped like hamburgers.

My local favorites were Lickity Split in Adrian ice cream shop and Holy Chow take out delivery in Ann Arbor. The ice cream shop has since changed names and the Chinese restaurant, well I don't know if it is still around.

There's also a restaurant in San Francisco with a pun-tastic name. It's a sandwich place called "Wichcraft." Cute huh?

In Saginaw, MI there is a salon with a picture of a paper clip on their sign. The salon's name is pay-per-clip. Pretty clever.

when i was young, i used to watch my mother bake. i toyed with the idea of opening a bakery. with my name, i would have called it "stew-da-baker". not bad, at least to me.

Years ago on the west side of Houston there was a Chinese restaurant called "Wok of Art". Unfortunately, they didn't space the letters properly so it looked like it was called "Woko fart". Sad but true story.

I've always said if I open a real estate agency, I'd call it "Sherlock Homes". Turns out there IS one! Located in Sea Cliff, Long Island.

I like "Brewed Awakening" the best. Here's two more I've seen and liked: "Pettsburgh" and "Hair We Are"
