It's been a tough year for the city of Detroit. Not only has its once mighty motor industry come perilously close to complete collapse, its hapless football team, the Lions, just finished their season with a unprecedentedly dismal 0-16 record. Still, even in adversity, there's one thing the crumbling metropolis always excels in: coolness.Sharp-suited Motown maestros like Smokey Robinson, proto-punks like the Stooges and latter-day garage rock revivalists like the White Stripes have shown that Detroit denizens look great and sound even better as the town around them struggles. With the Motor City in mind, we thought we'd take a moment to pay tribute to some its rockingest sons, '60s firebrands the MC5.
