Ang Lee's ridiculously successful 2000 martial-arts-love-story-epic "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" didn't quite lead to the expected Chinese-language cinema invasion. Even more unfairly, it didn't end up turning its breakout star, the delightfully sylph-like Ziyi Zhang, into the Hollywood starlet her undeniable sexiness seemed to demand. Not that Ms. Zhang has been starved for work in the past eight years, having pretty much starred in every medium-sized Asian-U.S. crossover success since "Crouching Tiger" ("Hero," "House of Flying Daggers," Wong Kar-Wai's sumptuous "2046") but as U.S.-based fans of beautiful, kung fu-kicking Asian actresses we still feel slightly short-changed.
That might be about to change with the release of "The Horsemen," a Dennis Quaid-starring serial killer thriller from Swedish pop-video director Jonas Akerlund that's Zhang's most "American" film to date. Check out our gallery of Zhang Ziyi and see why we're quite selfishly hoping to see her starring in some widely-released Hollywood shlock soon.
