Bruce Springsteen is a constant in American culture. Beloved by young and old, frat bras and indie kids alike, his brand of bombastic, blue-collar rock is never out of style. Still, even by his own evergreen standards, the Boss is having a good few months. His 16th studio album, "Working On a Dream," was released to acclaim this week, his title tune from Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler" scored a Golden Globe, and he'll be playing the halftime show at Super Bowl on Sunday.

With this in mind, we thought it was time to salute Springsteen's brand of rugged style. We thought it best to go back before his '80s predilection for sleeveless denim vests and bandannas to his "Born to Run"-era combination of flared pants, straggly hair and leather jackets. It worked to fine effect, ultimately resembling a slightly hippy-ish street tough -- San Francisco by way of New Jersey.

William Rast Men's Leather Jacket Black

Driving Cap
The floppy headgear simultaneously brings old-school working class grit and boho gypsy flamboyance to Springsteen's standard rocker garb. It's a neat trick if you can pull it off ($60 from JohnstonMurphy.com)
