The movie is an exceptional drama, tackling serious sociocultural topics in an adventure saga which is anything but whimsical. The Alan Moore-Dave Gibbons Sequential novel remains a classic to this day, and the Zack Snyder film is a superb adaptation which captures the spirit of the book while complementing literary allusion with sly cinematic focus.
This isn't standard superhero fare, 1950s or otherwise. It certainly isn’t Adam West. WATCHMEN is sobering commentary and withering satire, full of passion, violence, and awe. Utilizing the superhero genre to reflect our nation's troubled state of mind, and desperate need for upliftment, WATCHMEN is a landmark film telling a necessary tale extremely well.
