People enjoy television more when they watch it with the commercials.Although most television viewers say they prefer to avoid advertisements, researchers at the NYU Stern School of Business discovered that these breaks in the action actually enhance boob tube sessions.
"People often adapt to the experience of watching television such that each successive minute is slightly less enjoyable than the previous one," wrote the study's authors, who received no funding from outside companies that might run ads. "Advertisements, although independently aversive, disrupt this adaptation process and can therefore make the overall experience more enjoyable."
This coincides with our own advertising research, which found that 62 percent of folks enjoy watching commercials that do not feature Budweiser horses.
