Actress Salma Hayek recently traveled to Sierra Leone to raise awareness about tetanus, and while there, she took it upon herself to fight the effects of extreme poverty ... by breast-feeding someone else's baby. On the one hand, we're kind of excited that Hayek is whipping out her boobs on "Nightline." On the other hand, there's something distinctly creepy about sticking your breasts in the mouth of a random baby that doesn't belong to you. Check out the video after the jump and let us know whether this is kind of weird or something else altogether.

Good for Salma! She did what mothers have done to help one another, even those they didn't know, for millenia! God bless her for it!

I think any woman who had compassion and enough breast milk would have done the same thing.
Black women(Slaves)breast fed White babies all the time because I guess they(White women) put more importance on their figure than the bonding process.

Women have been feeding children that were not their own since the beginning of time. That's what a wet nurse was for. Aristocracy had servents that "wet nursed" their children. And please...... it is 2009 and we are still so uptight that a story about breast milk dominates the news genre for 2 days straight.

Siera Leon has one of the highest rates of newborns born with HIV
in the world.
How about a photo of her when her doctor tells her she needs an HIV test because an infant can easily transmit aides through breast feeding.

Salma Hayek comes from a rich culture where nature is respected and honored. The concept of "wet nurses" have been around since the beginning of time. Lets face it, "formula" is a 20th century thing, and mothers just helped eachother as needed before that. This act was natural, selfless, compassionate and beautiful.

Salma did what women have done for babies since the beginning of time. All the hype about this being wierd or something worse is because people have lost sight of the primary reason breasts evolved: to nourish babies. You clothe the naked, shelter the poor, and feed the hungry; it's what we're supposed to do. And most of all it is not a big deal, you just do it.
