Director James Gray, who helmed Joaquin Phoenix's latest (and supposedly final) film "Two Lovers," has weighed in on the Oscar nominee's recent spate of bizarre behavior. Gray, who also worked with Phoenix on two previous movies, believes his friend is dead serious about pursuing hip-hop at the expense of a lucrative Hollywood career, and reports he began to worry about Phoenix's mental state when they were on set.

On the other hand, everything Phoenix has been doing lately is being suspiciously filmed by brother-in-law Casey Affleck, leading some to believe Phoenix's slovenly appearance and brand-new inability to answer questions in complete sentences is all part of a Kaufmanesque prank.

After the jump, view the evidence suggesting Phoenix is suffering a breakdown, and vote on whether he has truly lost it, or is cleverly blurring the line between insanity and publicity.
