Yesterday, the New York Post ran a political cartoon, and a lot of people complained that it was really funny. "Funny" meaning "offensive" and "racist," of course.

In the cartoon, a police officer has just shot a chimpanzee, while his partner makes a stimulus-bill-related comment. "The cops [in the cartoon] are saying, 'Someone's going to have to write the next stimulus bill,'" said Andrew Rojecki, an associate professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago. "Well, who wrote the last stimulus bill? It's Obama and the Democratic Party, but really it's associated with one person -- and that's Obama."

On top of the depiction of assassinating the president, there's the whole African-American-as-a-monkey thing, which we all know is not good. Sean Delonas, the Post's cartoonist, has defended the drawing, saying it suggests that the recently passed stimulus bill is such a mess that it could only have been written by monkeys. But perhaps his biggest mistake was trying to tie some bizarre news-of-the-weird story with politics.
