Evolution has conditioned humans to be altruistic toward those who look like they could be relatives.Italian scientists took facial images of adult identical twins and morphed each with that of an unrelated model. They then asked the twins which of the two composites they would prefer to rescue from danger, or to marry their sister. Two-thirds of the time they picked the one with the face most similar to their own.
While this isn't exactly a revolutionary finding, in getting there researchers did uncover the precision of our instinct to favor those who look the most like us.
This is another reason why we advise charities to clone the extremely rich and send the clone army out on pledge drives.

As mentioned, this is nothing new. Studies have long shown that, in general, people attracted to those similar in appearance to themselves. This applies to relationships and friendships.
This same finding is one of the reasons we see social dominance hierarchies fall along ethnic and racial lines in many countries. http://chuckross.blogspot.com
