Is Jon Stewart Your Most Trusted Anchor?
That young folks prefer to be informed by comedy shows is not news, but the fact that these shows are replacing mainstream news outlets points to a larger issue: trust. Simply put, the youngs just trust Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert more than bearded men named Wolf.
And can you really blame them?

Why does everyone harp on the "trust" factor? I believe the simple truth is that John Stewart/Colbert talk about what younger people want to be enlightened on... Politics, the economy and world affairs. The traditional news cares more about a cat getting saved by a dog than nuclear nonproliferation. And niche cable news is just that, niche, of course they don't interest the mainstream under 40 masses.
We trust our eyes and our instincts, SteBert allows us to see for ourselves the video clips with the back stories and external influences that may or may not be exactly related, but since it's "entertainment" they can get away with it. Which allows US to decide if it's pertinent.
Fans of the show "Connections" know that you CAN look at two seemingly disparate things and realize they influence each other in profound ways that "Facts" alone can't explain.

Fact is, Stewart and Colbert make news and information entertaining. But you really have to know what is going on first to understand and appreciate their shows. They are masters at pointing out the absurdities of politics and looking at things with some common sense. I watch them all and appreciate each for what they are - all except Fox Noise - I don't have time to waste!
