New research on people who attend S&M events suggests that spanking and other light S&M activities can foster closeness in couples. While spanking initially ups the hormonal stress of the person receiving the stimulation, stress levels return to normal soon after the "punishment" is over. Some psychologists believe this hormonal roller coaster brings the participants in the activity closer together -- much like sharing any stressful experience would. Others believe just about any shared activity will bring two people closer, and it doesn't matter if it's stressful or involves whips and chains.
Do you think inflicting playful pain on your partner would (or does) strengthen your relationship? If you're speaking from personal experience, don't be afraid to divulge the details.

I honestly can see how it can bring a couple together. You have to trust the person dishing out the pain. This helps build and keep trust in a relationship. It also helps them learn how to relate and communicate with each other.
